This fella’s tail is a paintbrush… interesting.įirstly, the game is visually delightful, more akin to an animated movie in its style thanks to the modern technology available to developers nowadays. But that’s not to say it’s boring, because I did enjoy my time with the first entry for several reasons. In all honesty, there’s very little depth to the story and the game is essentially a 5-7-hour collect-a-thon. Of course, this means it’s up to Spyro (AKA you) to travel across the several different hub worlds (and their subsequent levels) freeing dragons, collecting eggs and hoovering up gems scattered all over the place. The first game in the series has you take on the role of the young dragon Spyro, the only non-crystallised dragon after the evil Gnorc decides to go about unleashing a wave of energy across the land. This isn’t a reboot, but instead a fully rebuilt remake of the original trilogy, a la the Crash Bandicoot N’ Sane Trilogy. Little has changed about Spyro Reignited Trilogy that you won’t already be expecting if you’ve played the original games.

Though, full disclosure, I still enjoyed it like the niggling voice at the back of my head keeps telling me I did as a child. As someone who can’t extensively remember playing the originals many moons ago, this review will largely be focused on the game as I found it this time round. To get here, you must rescue 50 Dragons and then talk to Cray the Ballonist in the Beast Makers Home world. After a long slumber, everyone’s favourite purple dragon Spyro has returned to consoles with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The penultimate series of levels, the Dream Weavers can get quite challenging. To reach these levels, you have to rescue five Eggs and then talk to Tuco the Ballonist in the Magic Crafters Home world. The Beast Makers are jungle and swamp-themed levels that house the most complex level in the game, and arguably of the series: Tree Tops. The levels you'll encounter in the Magic Crafters are as follows: To access these worlds, you have to collect 1,200 Gems and talk to Gosnold the Balloonist in the Peacekeepers Home world. The Magic Crafter worlds are where the game starts getting tricky, despite the rather pastel appearance. The worlds you'll find here are as follows: The levels and enemies in the Peacekeepers will get more complex with the tutorial-like gameplay over with. To reach these worlds, you must rescue five Dragons from the Artisan worlds. The Peacekeepers are the second set of worlds in the game, and are themed around desert strongholds. They are easier than all the other levels so you have more freedom to learn the ropes and how to play the game. The Artisans are the first worlds in the game.
